Planning a family trip to Seoul? If you are applying for a South Korea tourist visa from India, the process can often feel overwhelming. Unlike some other destinations, the documentation for Indian citizens requires specific attention to detail, especially regarding financial proofs.
As I mention on my About the Dad page, I am the family’s designated “Chief Operations Officer.” While my wife (the “Visionary”) found the dreamy cafes in Myeongdong, my job was to handle the spreadsheets and paperwork to ensure we actually got there.
As a family of three (two adults and a toddler) living in India, we wanted to make sure our application was watertight. The best part? We did this completely on our own without any travel agents. It took us about 3 weeks of effort to get every document sorted, but the result was worth it.
Here is the exact strategy, timeline, and document list that got our visas approved in just 5 days.

Timeline: South Korea Tourist Visa from India
We decided not to take any risks with timing. Even though the processing for Indian applicants is currently fast, applying well in advance gave us peace of mind.
- Travel Date: October 31st, 2025
- Visa Application Submitted: September 1st, 2025 (2 months prior)
- Visa Approved: September 6th, 2025
- Total Processing Time: 5 Days
The “Hybrid” Sponsorship Strategy
One of the most common questions regarding the South Korea tourist visa from India is how to handle a working spouse’s application. To maximize our approval chances, we used a specific strategy:
- Main Applicant (Me): Primary self-sponsored applicant.
- Spouse (Wife): Even though she is working, we listed me as the Main Sponsor. However, we also attached her financial documents. This “hybrid” approach signals to the consulate that she is fully supported by me, but also financially independent.
- Child (3.5 Years): Pure dependent with me (Father) as the sponsor.
1. Main Applicant Checklist (Sponsor/Father)
Status: Employed in India | Sponsor: Self
When applying for a South Korea tourist visa from India as the primary earner, the goal is to prove strong ties to the home country and financial stability.
- Visa Type: Ensure you select C-3-9 tourist visa.
- Visa Application Form (e-Form):
- Important: The visa center does not provide physical forms. We filled the application online on the Korea Visa Portal, printed the completed e-Form with the barcode, and signed it.
- Visa Checklist Document:
- This is the mandatory cover sheet you must attach to your bundle.
- Free Resource: Download the Official Tourist Visa Checklist (PDF) (Official 2024 checklist for Chennai/Bengaluru jurisdiction)
- Passport: Photocopy of front and back pages.
- NOC from Company: A standard No Objection Certificate stating designation and approved leave dates.
- 6 Months Bank Statement: Crucial Step: This must be stamped and signed by the bank. Ensure the statement is recent. In our case, transactions were covered till 30th August as we submitted our application on 1st September.
- ITR (Income Tax Returns): Last 2 years (Mandatory for Indian employees).
- Investment Proofs: Stamped and signed statements for Fixed Deposits (FD), Recurring Deposits (RD), and Mutual Funds.
- Cover Letter: A detailed letter explaining the purpose of the visit and itinerary.
- Travel Proofs: Day-wise itinerary, confirmed flight tickets, and hotel bookings.
- Personal Documents: Marriage Certificate, PAN Card photocopy.
- Salary Slips: Last 1 year.
- Declarations: Health Declaration Form
- NOC Discrepancy (Real Experience): My company’s standard NOC template did not include company’s email, and HR refused to alter the format. At the visa submission counter, the officer pointed this out immediately.
- What happened next: Instead of rejecting the application, the officer asked me to write a handwritten declaration on a plain sheet of paper right there, stating that the company did not provide these details on the NOC.
- Lesson Learned: Carry a pen and blank A4 paper with you! The officers are often helpful and may allow you to fix minor missing details on the spot.
2. Spouse Checklist (The “Hybrid” Application)
Status: Employed | Sponsor: Husband (Primary) + Self (Secondary)
This bundle was thicker because we combined her financial strength with my sponsorship. We made sure the Cover Letter and Sponsorship Letter “talked” to each other to support her application for the South Korea tourist visa from India.
- Application Documents:
- Printed e-Form.
- Checklist Document (Download PDF).
- Passport: Photocopies of her passport + My passport (sponsor).
- Employment Proof: Her original NOC + Photocopy of my NOC.
- Financials:
- Her 6-month stamped/signed bank statement + Photocopy of my statement.
- Her stamped investment proofs + Photocopy of my proofs.
- Her last 1-year salary slips + My salary slips.
- Her last 2-year ITR + My ITR.
- Cover Letter (Wife’s Voice):
- Note: I have shared the full cover letter template in a separate post , but here is the key excerpt regarding finances that we included:
- Sponsorship Letter (Husband’s Voice):
- I provided a signed letter confirming the exact same arrangement. Here is the key line we used:
- Travel Proofs: Itinerary, flights, hotel bookings.
- Personal Documents: Her PAN + My PAN, Marriage Certificate.
- Declarations: Health Declaration Form
3. Child Visa Checklist (Toddler)
Status: Dependent | Sponsor: Father
Securing a South Korea tourist visa from India for a minor is straightforward if you focus on proving parental consent and financial backing.
- Application Documents:
- Printed e-Form.
- Checklist Document (Download PDF).
- Passport: Photocopy of the child’s passport.
- Sponsor Documents (Father’s):
- Photocopy of NOC.
- 6 months bank statement (stamped/signed).
- 2 years ITR & 1-year salary slips.
- FD/RD/Mutual Fund statements (stamped/signed).
- PAN Card photocopy (Father’s).
- School Leave Letter: A simple letter from the preschool/daycare acknowledging the holiday.
- Sponsorship Letter: From me (Father).
- Cover Letter: Written on behalf of the child explaining the visit.
- Travel Proofs: Itinerary, flights, hotel bookings.
- Relationship Proof: Birth Certificate.
- Health Declaration Form.
4. 3 Tips for Getting Your South Korea Tourist Visa from India
Based on our experience at the Bengaluru visa centre, here are three strategies that helped our process go smoothly:
- Start Early: It took us 3 weeks just to gather, print, and organize these documents. Don’t underestimate the legwork required for a family application.
- Stamps Matter: Do not rely on downloaded PDFs. Go to your bank branch. The visa officers look for that “Verified” wet stamp and signature on bank statements and FDs.
- Over-communicate: If a document is imperfect (like my NOC missing an email id), don’t hope they ignore it. Attach a declaration letter explaining the discrepancy.
5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How much bank balance is required for a South Korea tourist visa from India? While there is no official fixed amount, it is generally recommended to show enough funds to cover your flights, hotels, and daily expenses, plus a buffer. Providing stamped FD or Mutual Fund statements strengthens your case significantly.
Is a school leave letter mandatory for toddlers? It is highly recommended. Even for a preschooler (3.5 years old), we submitted a leave letter from the daycare to show that the child has permission to travel during those dates.
How much detailed should be your itinerary? This is the format that we used while submitting our application. You can refer this.

6. Final Thoughts
Getting your South Korea tourist visa from India doesn’t have to be stressful. By following this DIY family guide and preparing your documents early, you can save money on agents and focus on planning your Seoul itinerary instead. If we could do it with a toddler in tow, you definitely can too!

do we need to have seperate cover letter?
and child school travel permission is needed or bonafide certificate is enough?
Yes when we applied, we have submitted separate cover letter for each applicant.
For us, we have taken taken one letter from the child’s school. The letter mentioned that the school is granting my kid leave from [Departure day] to [Arrival day] for international travel with family. It also mentioned that the letter is being issued upon request for the purpose of visa documentation. So, a similar kind of letter from the child’s school can be taken. Some school may have a specific template as well.
Hi, I am planning to visit South Korea this August along with my wife and our 1.5-year-old daughter. I will be sponsoring both my spouse (homemaker) and daughter for the trip. I came across your blog and found it extremely helpful. I would be really grateful if you could clarify a few doubts I have regarding the visa process:
1)I noticed in your blog that your employer NOC format did not contain an email address or phone number, and that you had submitted a handwritten declaration explaining the same. I work with the Indian Audit and Accounts Department, and our NOC format is also similar. So I am planning to follow the same approach.
2) Do I need to prepare separate cover letters and sponsorship letters for my wife’s and daughter’s applications? Also, would a photocopy of my bank statement (stamped and signed by the bank) be sufficient to attach with their applications?
3) We have a 77-hour layover in Singapore en route to Seoul and plan to use the VFTF facility since all three of us hold valid US B2 multiple-entry visas. Is it necessary to mention the Singapore layover and VFTF plan in the cover letter?
4) For an 11-day trip to Korea, how much bank balance would you generally recommend maintaining? I am planning to keep a balance of above ₹5 lakhs.
5) How detailed was your itinerary? Did you provide only a broad day-wise plan or a very detailed schedule with timings and bookings?
6) I live in Vijayawada. Can I alone visit the VFS/KVAC center in Chennai and submit documents on behalf of my wife and daughter as well?
Sorry for the long message, and thank you once again for sharing your experience. Your blog has been very useful for first-time Korea applicants like me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I will try my best to answer your questions based on my personal experience.
1. Yes I would strongly recommend to have a document explaining that your company follows a standard template of NOC. If possible, please still try to request your employer to provide based on the KVAC document requirement.
2. Yes you would need separate cover letter and sponsorship letter for your spouse and daughter.
For the bank statement query, for your application, you would need to submit the original bank statement with stamp and signature. For your spouse and daughter, you would need to take 2 separate photocopies of your bank statement with the stamp and signature. In case you have FD or RD, please get the FD/RD statements stamped and signed from the bank for your application, then take photo copies and submit those for your spouse and daughter’s application as well.
3. I would recommend you to check with the KVAC if you need to mention about the Singapore layover in the cover letter.
4. There is no official minimum balance requirement. However, based on our research, personal experience and friends who already got the visa, I would like to call out a few things which the visa officer would likely look at:
a. How stable is your monthly income?
b. How much amount is getting credited each month and is it enough to support 3 people per day?
c. Minimum balance of 3-4 lakhs should be sufficient. For better clarity, you can contact KVAC as well.
d. Make sure there is no large transaction getting credited to your account prior to your application submission.
5. I have updated our itinerary format in the FAQ section of this post. Please refer.
6. All 3 of us went to KVAC for our visa application. However, I would recommend you to contact KVAC if only 1 person is enough to visit.
Hey. Planning to go for the visa document drop-off next week. What kind of flight bookings did you show– dummy or real? If real, did you book refundable flights? And from which website?
Hi..We booked an actual refundable flight tickets directly from Cathay Pacific website. All the best for your visa application!
